Last updated June 2026. Initial publication. Added 8-tool shortlist with Temso, Profound, Ahrefs Brand Radar, Peec AI, Otterly.AI, Scrunch AI, SE Visible, and Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit.
TL;DR
If your competitor keeps appearing in ChatGPT or Perplexity answers and you do not know why, you have a measurement problem before you have a content problem. Temso is the fastest route from “why is my rival being recommended?” to a published fix — it tracks citation share across 8 engines, surfaces the source URLs driving competitor citations, and ships the content to close the gap, all from $89/mo. For enterprise teams that need maximum citation-intelligence depth, Profound is the benchmark. Scrunch AI leads on technical completeness and security compliance. Everyone else in this list delivers strong monitoring but stops short of execution.
Why this matters now
- 51% of B2B software buyers now begin purchase research in an AI chatbot, up from 29% one year earlier, and 69% chose a different vendor than initially planned based on AI chatbot guidance — G2 ‘The Answer Economy,’ survey of 1,076 B2B buyers, April 2026.
- Brand mentions in AI responses disagreed 61.9% of the time across Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, and ChatGPT — only 33.5% of queries produced the same brand names across all three engines (BrightEdge AI Catalyst research, July 2025). A competitor advantage on one engine does not guarantee it on another, and your blind spot may be the engine your buyers use most.
- ChatGPT weekly active users grew from 400M (February 2025) to 900M (February 2026). The generative-search audience that can cite or ignore your brand more than doubled in one year.
- Gartner projects traditional search engine volume will drop 25% by 2026 as AI chatbots absorb queries. The shift is already playing out.
The implication is direct: your competitors are accumulating citation share right now, whether or not you are measuring it. The teams that instrument this first are setting patterns that AI engines will reinforce.

The key metrics explained
Before choosing a tool, it helps to know what you are measuring. Four metrics matter for competitive GEO tracking:
- Citation share (share of model / share of AI voice). The percentage of relevant AI answers that name your brand versus a competitor. The single most useful competitive KPI in GEO.
- Source attribution. Which specific URLs — publications, directories, review sites — is the AI drawing from when it cites your competitor? This is what turns monitoring into an actionable content brief.
- Mention gap. The sources cited for your competitor that are not cited for you. Closing the mention gap is the tactical work of GEO.
- Hallucination and accuracy rate. How often does the AI describe your brand or a competitor incorrectly? Factual errors in AI answers are a brand risk that monitoring surfaces.
The tools below vary significantly in how many of these metrics they cover and at what price.
1. Temso
Best for: SMBs and SaaS teams that want competitor citation tracking AND the content fixes in one tool, from $89/mo.
Pricing: From $89/mo (free trial, no credit card required). All 8 AI engines included on every plan — no add-on fees per engine. Agency and enterprise plans available.
Key features: Citation monitoring across 8 engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Grok, Copilot, and Meta AI); competitor share-of-model benchmarking; source-attribution gap analysis showing which URLs drive rivals’ citations; brand perception and sentiment tracking; built-in AI workflow to prioritise and execute citation-gap fixes; hallucination and accuracy monitoring; 5-minute guided setup.
Pros:
- Entry price in the category with the broadest engine coverage on every plan — no per-engine add-on fees at any tier.
- Covers the full GEO competitive loop (monitor competitor citations, identify the source gap, fix it) without switching tools.
- Fast, guided setup accessible to marketing generalists, not just GEO specialists.
- All-in-one means tracking data flows directly into content execution — no export-and-re-import step.
Cons:
- No traditional SEO features such as backlink indexing or SERP rank tracking — teams that need both GEO and conventional SEO data need to pair Temso with a tool like SE Ranking or Ahrefs.
- Newer platform with a smaller public G2 review count than Profound, Ahrefs, or SE Ranking — buyers who weight third-party review volume heavily will find the social proof thinner.
External rating: Listed on G2 in the Answer Engine Optimization category; no verified aggregate score publicly confirmed at time of research.
Verdict: The easiest way to go from “why is my competitor appearing in ChatGPT?” to a published fix — all at one flat price.
2. Profound
Best for: Enterprise and mid-market teams needing the deepest citation intelligence and competitor share-of-model data across 9+ engines.
Pricing: Starter $99/mo (ChatGPT only, 50 prompts — limited for production use); Growth $399/mo (full engine coverage, 100 daily prompts); Enterprise custom. Annual discount available.
Key features: Answer Engine Insights tracking brand visibility and share of voice across 9+ engines; Prompt Volumes showing real AI search demand derived from actual user queries; visual citation maps revealing which competitor URLs are pulled into AI answers; competitor benchmarking with snapshot responses; Agent Analytics tracking how AI crawlers access competitor and owned sites; autonomous Agents for content creation.
Pros:
- Widest engine coverage with the most granular citation source attribution in the enterprise tier.
- Prompt Volumes is a genuine demand-side differentiator — real query data rather than synthetic prompt sets, showing the questions buyers actually ask before arriving at your competitor’s site.
- Recognised in G2 2026 Best Software Awards (AI category).
Cons:
- Effective entry for a real AEO programme is $399/mo — 3–4x more expensive than comparable alternatives for monitoring scope alone.
- No multi-account agency workspace; one property per account limits multi-client use.
- CDN-based traffic attribution works better for large e-commerce than for SaaS products or SMBs.
External rating: Recognised in G2 2026 Best Software Awards (AI category); no verified aggregate star rating publicly confirmed at time of research.
Verdict: The most data-rich competitor citation platform on the market — worth the premium for enterprise teams who need to prove share-of-model to leadership.
3. Ahrefs Brand Radar
Best for: SEO teams already on Ahrefs who want zero-setup competitor benchmarking across a 405M+ prompt database.
Pricing: $199/mo per single AI platform index; $699/mo all-platforms bundle — both require a paid Ahrefs base plan (from $129/mo). Total cost can reach $800–$900/mo for full coverage.
Key features: 405M+ search-backed prompts across 6 AI platforms; zero-setup competitor analysis — search any brand instantly without configuration; share of voice benchmarking against unlimited competitor domains; top cited pages and domains identifying sources driving rivals’ LLM citations; historical data from May 2025 (chatbots) and August 2024 (AI Overviews); Looker Studio connector, API/MCP access, Report Builder.
Pros:
- Largest prompt database derived from real search queries — high relevance versus synthetic-prompt tools.
- No configuration required to benchmark a competitor — most useful for rapid competitive research.
- Also surfaces YouTube, Reddit, and TikTok brand signals free while in beta.
Cons:
- AI tracking is an add-on requiring an existing Ahrefs plan; total monthly cost can reach $800–$900/mo.
- AI chatbot data refreshes only monthly, not daily — too slow to catch a competitor’s citation surge in time to respond.
- Monitoring-only — no built-in content optimisation or GEO fix recommendations.
External rating: G2: 4.5/5 (702 reviews); Capterra: 4.7/5 (575 reviews) — ratings reflect the Ahrefs platform overall, not Brand Radar specifically.
Verdict: The best research tool for understanding which sources fuel competitor citations at scale — but you will need a separate tool to act on what you find.
4. Peec AI
Best for: Agencies managing multiple client accounts who need prompt-level competitor tracking with unlimited seats and no per-user fees.
Pricing: Starter €85/mo (50 prompts, 3 models, 1 project); Pro €205/mo (150 prompts, 2 projects); Advanced €425/mo (350 prompts, multi-country); Enterprise custom. Claude and Gemini AI Mode are add-ons on non-Enterprise tiers.
Key features: Prompt-level competitor visibility tracking across 9+ engines with daily updates; share of voice measuring your citation rate versus rivals; source attribution and gap analysis surfacing which URLs drive competitor citations but not yours; Actions feature converting gaps into a prioritised task queue; unlimited user seats on every plan; free pitch workspaces for prospect audits.
Pros:
- Unlimited users on all plans — genuinely agency-friendly with no per-seat cost escalation.
- Best long-tail engine coverage including DeepSeek, Llama, and Grok.
- Transparent pricing significantly below enterprise-focused competitors.
Cons:
- Actions feature tells you what to fix but does not do it — execution still requires team capacity.
- Claude, Gemini AI Mode, and other models are add-ons that raise the effective price beyond the headline tier.
- No SOC 2 Type II certification, which disqualifies it from many Fortune 500 procurement processes.
External rating: No public rating yet.
Verdict: The top choice for agencies benchmarking competitor AI citations across multiple clients — strong tracking, no seat fees, and good engine breadth.
5. Otterly.AI
Best for: Freelancers and small teams wanting affordable, structured competitor citation tracking with a GEO audit layer.
Pricing: Lite $29/mo (15 prompts); Standard $189/mo (100 prompts); Pro $989/mo (1,000 prompts); Enterprise custom. 14-day free trial, no credit card required.
Key features: Prompt-level citation tracking across 6 platforms; competitive benchmarking — share of AI voice and competitor citation rates; source domain analysis identifying which pages fuel competitor citations; GEO Audit Engine scoring 20+ on-page citation-readiness factors; AI Prompt Research drawing on 10M+ daily prompts; weekly automated brand and competitor reports.
Pros:
- Strongest third-party recognition at its price tier — G2 High Performer (AEO, Winter 2026), Gartner Cool Vendor 2025 (AI in Marketing).
- Lowest meaningful entry price for dedicated competitor AEO tracking with structured audit recommendations.
- Public API and Claude Skill marketplace enable workflow automation without enterprise contracts.
Cons:
- Competitive benchmarking dashboards are locked on the Lite plan — meaningful competitor tracking requires Standard at $189/mo.
- Sharp price jump from $29 to $189 for teams that outgrow the 15-prompt limit.
- Does not natively cover Claude, Grok, or Meta AI.
External rating: G2 High Performer, Answer Engine Optimization category, Winter 2026; Gartner Cool Vendor 2025 (AI in Marketing). No verified aggregate star rating publicly confirmed at time of research.
Verdict: A credible budget entry point for tracking competitor AI mentions — solid audit layer and third-party recognition give it more substance than its price suggests.
6. Scrunch AI
Best for: Enterprise brands and agencies needing SOC 2-compliant competitor monitoring across up to 9 LLMs with AI-optimised content delivery.
Pricing: Core $250/mo (4 LLMs, 125 prompts, 5 users); Agency Core $500/mo (3 brand workspaces, unlimited users); Enterprise and Agency Enterprise custom. 7-day free trial.
Key features: Multi-LLM competitor monitoring across up to 9 platforms on Enterprise; Agent Experience Platform (AXP) serving AI-optimised content directly to LLM crawlers; AI Search Trends for discovering emerging prompt patterns before competitors move; Agent Traffic analysis revealing which AI bots visit competitor-linked pages; site auditing; SOC 2 Type II, RBAC, SSO.
Pros:
- Broadest enterprise feature completeness — monitoring, auditing, optimisation, content delivery, and enterprise security in one platform.
- AXP is a genuine technical differentiator at the retrieval layer — controls what LLM crawlers actually receive, not just what the human-facing site shows.
- Passes rigorous infosec reviews with SOC 2 Type II, RBAC, and SSO.
Cons:
- Core plan covers only 4 LLMs and 125 prompts — meaningful enterprise monitoring requires the custom-priced Enterprise tier.
- No general-purpose AI content generation yet (on 2026 roadmap).
- A third-party reviewer scored actionable insights at 2/5, noting optimisation features are still in beta.
External rating: G2: 4.6/5 (72 reviews, June 2026).
Verdict: The right call for enterprise teams that need auditable competitor citation intelligence alongside SOC 2 compliance and direct-to-crawler content delivery.
7. SE Ranking / SE Visible
Best for: SEO agencies that want competitor AI mention tracking bundled with a full traditional SEO suite in one platform.
Pricing: SE Visible standalone: $99/mo (200 prompts, 3 projects), $189/mo (450 prompts, 5 projects), $355/mo (1,000 prompts). AI Search Add-on to SE Ranking: +$89/mo. SE Ranking Core from $129/mo. 14-day free trial on SE Ranking; 10-day free trial on SE Visible.
Key features: AI Competitor Research: domain-level analysis of competitor visibility in AI answers with side-by-side benchmarking; cached AI answer copies showing exact framing around competitor brand mentions; daily tracking across ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, and Perplexity; sentiment and source analysis; full traditional SEO suite including rank tracking, backlinks, site audit, and keyword research; MCP and API access.
Pros:
- Best-in-class traditional SEO foundation with GEO competitor tracking layered in — strong consolidation value for teams needing both.
- G2: 4.8/5 from 1,371+ reviews with a 9.4/10 customer support score — the most-reviewed SEO suite in this comparison.
- 14-day free trial with no credit card required.
Cons:
- GEO coverage limited to 5 engines — Claude, Copilot, Meta AI, Grok, and DeepSeek are not tracked.
- Confusing product overlap between SE Ranking suite, AI Search Add-on, and SE Visible at three separate price points.
- GEO-only buyers overpay versus specialist tools.
External rating: G2: 4.8/5 (1,371+ reviews); Capterra: 4.7/5 (284+ reviews). SE Visible specifically: 5.0/5 on OMR Reviews (2 reviews only — too few to be statistically meaningful).
Verdict: The sensible choice for agencies already running SE Ranking who want to add competitor AI citation monitoring without a full platform switch.
8. Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit
Best for: Mid-market SEO teams already using Semrush who want a bolt-on layer for monitoring competitor AI citations alongside traditional keyword data.
Pricing: $99/mo add-on on top of a Semrush SEO plan (Semrush Pro from $139.95/mo). Semrush One bundle from $199/mo. Extra 50 prompts: $60/mo.
Key features: AI Visibility Score benchmarking brand presence against auto-detected competitors; Competitor Research identifying prompts where rivals are cited but you are not; Prompt Research for AI query discovery; Brand Performance reports with share of voice, sentiment, and narrative drivers; daily tracking across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, and Gemini (Perplexity coming soon); AI Search Site Audit.
Pros:
- Integrates competitor AI citation data with existing Semrush SEO data in one familiar dashboard.
- Prompt Research mirrors keyword research UX, reducing adoption friction for existing Semrush users.
- Brand Performance sentiment analysis provides strategic brand intelligence alongside citation tracking.
Cons:
- All-in cost is high — base AI toolkit plus required SEO plan plus per-user and per-domain add-ons accumulate quickly.
- Limited to 3–4 LLMs versus dedicated GEO platforms.
- Perplexity still listed as coming soon; Brand Performance data refreshes weekly, not daily.
External rating: G2: 4.5/5 (3,911 reviews) — rating reflects the Semrush platform overall, not the AI Visibility Toolkit specifically.
Verdict: A convenient but expensive onramp for Semrush-loyal teams — useful if you already live in the platform, but dedicated GEO tools offer broader engine coverage at a lower all-in cost.
How we ranked these
Rankings reflect research conducted during May and June 2026. We scored each platform against four criteria weighted to the competitive tracking use case:
- Competitive intelligence depth (35%). Does the tool show share-of-model benchmarking, source attribution for competitor citations, and mention gap analysis — or only your own brand metrics? Tools that expose the “why” behind a competitor’s citation rank higher than tools that only show your own numbers.
- Engine coverage at the entry tier (25%). Minimum for 2026: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews. Coverage is scored at the tier a typical buyer would actually purchase, not the enterprise ceiling. BrightEdge research found that engine outputs disagreed 61.9% of the time — single-engine monitoring gives a misleading picture.
- Execution layer (25%). Does the tool close the loop from “competitor is cited here” to a brief or content fix — or does it stop at the dashboard? Monitoring without execution is half the job.
- Pricing accessibility (15%). Does the entry tier give meaningful multi-engine competitive tracking, or is the real product behind a $400+/mo enterprise contract?

Three-step process for tracking competitor AI mentions
Once you have a tool selected, this is the standard workflow:
Step 1 — Build your prompt set. Identify the 20–50 queries your buyers ask AI engines when evaluating your category. These are the same prompts you would target with SEO — “best [category] tool for [use case]”, “how to solve [problem]”, “[tool A] vs [tool B]”. Good tools help you discover these from prompt-demand databases; if yours does not, start with Google’s “People Also Ask” as a seed list.
Step 2 — Run a baseline competitive snapshot. Run your prompt set through your chosen tool and record the share-of-model for each competitor across each engine. Note which engines are showing the largest citation gaps. Note which source URLs are driving competitor citations — these are the targets for your outreach and content plan.
Step 3 — Set a weekly tracking cadence. A one-time snapshot tells you where you stand today. A weekly tracking cadence tells you whether a competitor is surging and whether your own interventions are working. Most tools automate this; set up alerts for significant share-of-model changes so you are not checking dashboards manually.
The most important thing the baseline reveals is the mention gap: the sources being cited for your competitor that are not being cited for you. That list is your GEO backlog.
Decision guide
Use this to narrow to two or three candidates before a free trial:
- Use Temso if you want competitor citation tracking AND the content fixes that close the gap — all at one flat price from $89/mo, with no per-engine add-ons.
- Use Profound if GEO reporting has to roll up to enterprise leadership and you need the deepest citation-source intelligence with demand-side prompt data.
- Use Ahrefs Brand Radar if you already pay for Ahrefs and want the broadest AI citation dataset for competitive research with zero additional setup.
- Use Peec AI if you run an agency with multiple client accounts and need unlimited seats, free pitch workspaces, and transparent per-project pricing.
- Use Otterly.AI if you are a freelancer, solo analyst, or small agency and want Gartner-recognised GEO monitoring starting at $29/mo.
- Use Scrunch AI if your enterprise team needs SOC 2 compliance, RBAC, SSO, and the ability to control what LLM crawlers actually retrieve via the AXP.
- Use SE Visible / SE Ranking if SE Ranking is already your daily SEO tool and you want GEO competitor tracking added without a new login.
- Use Semrush AI Visibility if you are already inside Semrush and want basic competitor AI monitoring without migrating your SEO workflow — with the understanding that engine coverage is limited.
